Climate Arena is an app prototype where friends and family form groups (“Arenas”) and challenge each other to complete climate-friendly tasks. It was one of my favourite projects from my studies at FH Hagenberg, and our team ended up winning the study programme’s UX design competition with it.
The Concept
At Climate Arena, users can create an account and connect with friends by using their usernames or QR codes. Once signed up, users can form groups called “Arenas” where they can challenge each other to climate-friendly tasks. These challenges are designed to motivate individuals to explore topics related to environmental protection and sustainability.
For instance, a challenge could be as simple as “Replace a car ride with a bike ride”. Each user has the freedom to accept or decline these challenges based on their personal preferences, living situation and capabilities. By participating in these challenges, users not only contribute to their own environmental footprint but also raise awareness about the importance of sustainable actions. Finally every month there will be a winner, who has completed the most challenges.
Prototype and Concept Details
To get a better understanding of Climate Arena, you can explore the prototype here. Feel free to use any username and password for the login process. A detailed concept document is also available on request (German only).
⚠️ Please note that the prototype & detailed concept is available only in German.
The prototype offers a visual representation of Climate Arena’s user interface and showcases its various features. You can navigate through the prototype to experience the user journey and explore the different functionalities.
Celebrating Success
🏅 I am proud that our team won the study program internal UX design competition with Climate Arena. Thank you guys!
This competition, organized by the course “Communication, Knowledge, Media” at the university of applied sciences Hagenberg, challenged participants to create innovative and user-friendly app prototypes.
Wrapping it up
Climate Arena turns climate action into a social game: shared accountability through small, concrete challenges. The prototype shows what this could look like in practice.
What do you think of the concept and prototype? I would love to hear your toughts!
